Wrapping up editing
While we finish our final review, Zeezo is reading the manuscript by osmosis.
We’re down to our final full read-though and review. That means we’re reading the Things They Buried manuscript aloud to one another; you’d be shocked how many errors you find that way. It’s an old trick I learned as a copy editor, and one that’s way easier (and far more coherent) than the other trick of reading the whole thing backwards.
After this, our little science fantasy manuscript goes back to our editor for a final continuity review and line edit.
When I look at the timeline, it looks like we’re moving so slowly, but on a day-to-day basis, it feels like there’s more yet to do than can possibly be completed before publication. When they say writing the book is only a fraction of the work, they’re not kidding. It’s exhausting, but wonderful to be doing something professionally that I love for the first time in my life.
